This training focuses on educating volunteers on dog behavior and best practices of Lost Our Home Pet Rescue. You will learn how to:
- approach a dog in the kennel
- read body language
- attach a leash and Easy Walk harness
- take them out to our play yards, play rooms, and/or for walks (as weather allows)
- interact with them
- understand our enrichment boards & tools
In addition, we will discuss
- Dog Behavior Concepts: social organization, communications
- Body Language: reading what dogs are saying
- Working with Dogs in the Shelter: stress reduction and enrichment
- Handling Dogs Off-site: transporting, public places, socialization
As always, please observe LOH dress code: closed-toe shoes, long pants, no jewelry, and arrive 5-10 minutes early to check in at the kiosk and grab volunteer badges. We'll add stickers at the end!
Once completed, G/Y Paw Dog volunteers are eligible for all Dog Enrichment shifts & Offsite Events. Those who stay involved more consistently may be invited to additional training and/or to work with our Orange Paw dogs!
