How to connect interested folks quickly with our missionHow to recruit new volunteers, fosters, and prospective community partnersHow to sell t-shirts, calendars, and other fun retail suppliesEncouraging supply and cash donationsWhere to find key supplies, set up efficiently, and inspire action

Creativity and location ideas welcome! Any activity raises awareness of LOH, and is a win for the pets and people we serve! 

Ideal volunteers will have availability 2-3 hours on select weekends a time or two per month. No previous experience needed (only this training), and just bring a positive, friendly vibe and willingness to learn.

**FEAR FREE TRAINING (COMPLETE FROM HOME)**

This opportunity is to help find and earn credit (5 hours) for Fear Free Training. To complete this opportunity and receive credit, please:

1) Click "Respond" to this opportunity

2) Link to: Fear Free Shelter Program | Reduce Stress in Shelter Pets 

3) Follow this link for the Volunteer Verification Form (it's needed to waive the program cost - should be free, so contact us ASAP if prompted to pay) - you'll save and upload when prompted on your Fear Free login.

4) Complete the training at your own convenience! We advise spacing sections out, though some do complete as quickly as 1-2 days. It's 5 hours total, and you'll get credit for the whole thing!

5) When finished, please email the Certificate of Completion to volunteering@lostourhome.org with your name, and "Fear Free" in the title

Once Fear Free Certified, you'll be eligible to register for Green / Yellow Paw Dog and Green Paw Cat classes. From there, you're able to help at events and with dog/cat enrichment activities (all the play time fun).

We (and all our dog/cat friends) thank you for taking the time for this! It means the world and helps so much in giving them all the best environment.

At Shadow Shift, we will tour the facility, go over proper Shelter Care (laundry, dishes, kennel deep cleaning) procedures, answer any questions, and discuss other volunteering opportunities. The whole goal is for volunteers to leave confident and ready! 

Notes: 

Please register for only ONE Shadow Shift. Please speak with Volunteer Coordinator Chris Walker if you feel any follow-up training/support may be needed After completing this Shadow Shift, you are eligible for independent Shelter Care shifts, and much morePlease arrive at least 5 minutes prior to the scheduled start time and be sure to observe LOH dress code (long pants, closed-toed shoes)You'll Sign in at the Volunteer Kiosk (behind the front desk) and create a nametag prior to shift **Reminder that any minors 8-15 must be accompanied by a parent at all times. **Welcome to Green / Yellow Paw Dog Training!**

Please complete the following before signing up for this opportunity:

Orientation Video Shadow Shift At least 1 Shelter Care Shift Fear Free Shelter Training 

This training focuses on educating volunteers on dog behavior and best practices of Lost Our Home Pet Rescue. You will learn how to:

approach a dog in the kennelread body languageattach a leash and Easy Walk harnesstake them out to our play yards, play rooms, and/or for walks (as weather allows)interact with themunderstand our enrichment boards & tools

In addition, we will discuss

Dog Behavior Concepts: social organization, communications Body Language: reading what dogs are saying Working with Dogs in the Shelter: stress reduction and enrichment Handling Dogs Off-site: transporting, public places, socialization

As always, please observe LOH dress code: closed-toe shoes, long pants, no jewelry, and arrive 5-10 minutes early to check in at the kiosk and grab volunteer badges. We'll add stickers at the end!

Once completed, G/Y Paw Dog volunteers are eligible for all Dog Enrichment shifts & Offsite Events. Those who stay involved more consistently may be invited to additional training and/or to work with our Orange Paw dogs!

This training focuses on educating new volunteers on cat behavior and some best practices of Lost Our Home Pet Rescue. You'll learn

how to approach a cathow to read their body languagesafe cat interactionwhere to find supplies, toys, identify the cats in each room, etc.enrichment techniques & how to use the enrichment board

We'll share how to maintain the space too!

As always, please observe LOH Dress Code - closed-toed shoes, full-length pants, family-friendly shirts

**Orange Paw Dog Training Interest List**

Learn the advanced handling skills needed to work with our more challenging shelter dogs. "Respond here or email volunteering@lostourhome.org to get on the interest list for the next class. Requires prior Green/Yellow Paw training 

This is evolving, but work hand-in-hand with our certified Behaviorist Bryana on some or all of the following:

Safe kennel entry & leashingProvide calm, steady hand for yarding/walksReview safety supplies & advanced enrichment toolsRecognize individual behavior needs (e.g. resource guarding, dog/car reactivity, stranger danger)Appropriately redirect overstimulation or arousalParallel walksAid in doggy play datesPawgress Reports (our post-enrichment note system)

More to come! Our Orange Paw pups can really grow with time & patience, so we would love consistency once successfully trained - it's a win for everybody!

Learn the tricks behind leading groups, community members, and new trainees. Amplify your impact by teaching others
